On a Wing and a Prayer

Austin's big dream is to become a commercial airline pilot. In addition, he hopes to fulfill the flying hours requirement by joining the Air Force or Coast Guard Academy after he graduates high school. This will take a lot of hard work and dedication on Austin's part, and he seems up for the challenge.

For his 15th birthday his Grandma Florence or "G" as Austin calls her, signed him up for a week-long aerospace summer camp at McClellan AFB. Oh Boy, did Austin go nuts about this. He loved it so much. He soaked up all the information and said he knows for sure that this is what he wants to do for his career. On the last day of camp, he was even able to go up in a plane with one of the instructors, and wear the headset, and hear all the pilots communicate with the control tower. So cool, right?!

Here are a few pics from the CD of photos they sent home with him.

(Also, can you BELIEVE this boy has never seen Top Gun?! This one is going to the TOP of our Netflix list, fo sho'!)

  2. I am so impressed with Austin. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up and I always admired kids/teenagers that did. Very cool to learn that about him Erin! You must be very proud. He looks very mature and dedicated in those pictures.

And how lucky are you that you get to have a Top Gun movie night, that movie has the best soundtrack. :) Let me know if he thinks it's cheesy or awesome.

  3. How fun!! What a great gift! We are a little biased to the Coast Guard over here :)!

It's great for a young man to have such a great goal, it will keep him on the right path.

  4. Erin, you and Scott must be so proud of Austin. What a great kid! Like Melanie mentioned, I too have always admired people who knew from a young age what they wanted to be when they grew up. I'm 33 and STILL haven't figured it out, so good for him!

What an awesome gift Florence gave him. And how cool is it that they took pics to send home with him?!

Dying to hear what he thinks of Top Gun! :)
