Long Lost Twin
Sooo....last night Harlie discovered the 'replacement' Soothe and Glow Seahorse that we had purchased in a panic a couple years ago when Horsey turned up missing. At the time, Harlie pretty much freaked at the sight of the imposter and rejected him immediately. So since then, he's been tucked away, just in case Horsey's guts stopped working and needed replacing. At our current house, he's been on the top shelf in the entry way closet, and Harlie spotted him last night when Scott was putting his coat away. This time she was actually delighted to discover Horsey's long lost friend, brother, cousin....whatever. She has a couple of friends (Elinor! Brandi!) who also have a Soothe and Glow seahorse, so she now understands that her beloved Horsey is not exactly one of a kind and has adopted this shiny new seahorse as her own. She's even named him Finny (too cute). Finny actually accompanied Harlie to pre-school today, since "he's never been". So now we'll see if Horsey gets put on the back burner for awhile just like when Elephant (a gift from Helen and Bri) came along a year ago. I have to say it even made my heart break a little for dear Horsey. Gosh darn sentimental shmuck that I am.

Auntie Keri went and got all verklempt reading this and looking at your Harlie in these photos. I mean I am seriously emotional. What a sweetie pie she is. I love how happy she is, like she found a long lost family member. My favorite photos are of Horsey and Finney kissing #1 and then H zoned out clutching both of them while she watches Star Wars. HEART MELTING! Such a sweet post, E!
ReplyDeleteDid you notice how both Horsey and Finny have pull-ups on. So funny. I know I seriously had to keep my feelings out of it, because she was so happy about it.
DeleteI lie. I did make one stipulation...she couldn't same the new one Horsey as well. I felt like Horsey deserved a little bit of respect.
Delete"Horsey deserved a little bit of respect." THAT made me giggle, Erin. Too cute.
DeleteThis was completely delightful to read. From the HUGE smile on her adorable little face to the three way kiss, and yes the sad faded look of Horsey (if this was a Toy Story Movie, those two would be serious enemies!). Awww. I miss me some Harlie and can't believe how grown up she's looking. Is she really into Star Wars?! So neat!
ReplyDeleteGosh I miss you so much, I'm examining your house for clues as to what you've been up too, it's spotless, and I see a crock pot and towel on the counter. Mama's been cookin'!
I just left you a message on your phone, you were probably putting Harlie down. Love you.
Looks like I missed some posts of yours! I'm all caught up now. :)
I love you and your keen attention to detail. Yes I crock-potted it that night...bbq chicken sandwiches!
DeleteDo you have to manually check to see if I've posted since you don't use your google reader and I'm not on your blog roll? Sorry if that's annoying. :-(
XOXO
Okay, this post is adorable with a capital A. I died when I saw that photo of Horsey and Finny kissing. And then H got in on the action and I died again. Too, too cute.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I didn't know H was into Star Wars! Must be big bro's influence? :) Does Austin have any SW toys he can pass down to her?
Or Mazzy and Max's influence... :)
DeleteIt is a recent development (the SW love) and yes I think mostly Max and Mazzy's influence initially, but Austin and Scott think it's the greatest thing ever and are keeping the flame of hope alive. :-) Austin came home from Disneyland with a Yoda backback and Harlie thought that was way cool. I don't think Austin actually has any SW action figures or toys, just the movies and books and MAYBE some Legos from when he was little.
